The Ystwyth Trail
To be fully opened in July 2008, the Ystwyth Trail will connect Aberystwyth, on the shore of Ceredigion's Bay, with Tregaron in the northern Teifi Valley.Substantial sections of the trail follow the track of the old Great Western railway line. Those comparatively level sections particularly lend themselves towards wheelchair users, family cycling - involving younger children - with the entire route being suitable for walkers. Substantial sections are also suitable for horse riding.
The Ystwyth Trail bridges several strategic cycling facilities within Ceredigion, linking the Tregaron and Lampeter Wales Cycle Breaks Centre routes network with Aberystwyth and creating a link with both the Lôn Cambria and Lôn Teifi long distance cycling routes (Sustrans national network routes 81 and 82) as well as connecting Tregaron with the Rheidol Cycle Trail linking Aberystwyth with Devil's Bridge.
Similarly, the Ystwyth Trail bridges a number of strategic provisions for walking within Ceredigion, connecting Tregaron and the upper Teifi Valley with the Ceredigion Coast Path and providing a northerly return route for individuals following the linear footpath that extends between Borth and Tregaron via Devil's Bridge, Cwm Ystwyth, Pontrhydygroes and Pontrhydfendigaid.
The Rheidol Cycleway
The Rheidol Cycleway is a 28km trail along designated cycle paths and quiet country lanes connecting Aberystwyth and Devils’ Bridge.
